Located just 1 km from the UNESCO World Heritage Ellora Caves in Maharashtra, Grishneshwar Temple is honored as the twelfth and final Jyotirlinga. Built of beautiful red rocks, this ancient temple showcases classic South Indian temple architecture with detailed carvings of Hindu gods. It is a symbol of absolute devotion and holds high archaeological and religious significance.

Historical & Mythological Significance

The Shiva Purana narrates the story of Kusuma, a devout woman who worshipped Shiva by dissolving clay lingas in a lake daily. Out of jealousy, her husband's second wife killed Kusuma's son. Despite her grief, Kusuma continued her rituals. Pleased with her devotion, Shiva resurrected her son and appeared in front of her. At Kusuma's request, Shiva established himself there as Grishneshwar (Lord of Devotion). The temple was rebuilt in the 18th century by Queen Ahilyabai Holkar of Indore.
