Nestled on the flat-top of Nallamala Hills in Andhra Pradesh, Mallikarjuna Temple in Srisailam is uniquely revered as both a Jyotirlinga and a Shaktipeeth. Known as the 'Kailash of the South', this ancient temple sits on the banks of the Krishna River, offering devotees a profound spiritual atmosphere where Lord Shiva (Mallikarjuna) and Goddess Parvati (Bhramaramba) are worshipped together.

Historical & Mythological Significance

The temple's origins are deeply rooted in Hindu scriptures. Legend has it that when Ganesha was married before Kartikeya, Kartikeya grew angry and left for Mount Krauncha. Shiva and Parvati visited him here to console him, manifesting as Mallikarjuna (Shiva, named after Mallika flowers) and Bhramaramba (Parvati, in the form of a bee). Historically, the temple received patronage from major dynasties including the Satavahanas, Kakatiyas, and the Vijayanagara empire, with King Harihara Raya constructing the main mandapam.
