Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga Guide: Mandhata Island, Timings & Narmada Parikrama
Omkareshwar Temple is situated on a holy island called Mandhata in the Narmada River, Madhya Pradesh. The island's geography naturally matches the shape of the sacred Hindu symbol 'OM'. As the fourth Jyotirlinga, the pilgrimage is unique because it consists of visiting two temples: Omkareshwar on the island and Mamleshwar on the south bank, both representing the same divine Shiva energy.

Legend states that King Mandhata performed intense penance here to please Shiva, who then agreed to reside on the island. Another legend tells of Vindhya Mountain praying to Shiva to grow taller. Shiva created two parts of his linga: Omkareshwar and Mamleshwar. The main temple is a multi-story structure built in the ancient North Indian Nagara style, featuring beautifully carved stone pillars.
