Trimbakeshwar Temple, located at the foothills of Brahmagiri mountains in Nashik, Maharashtra, is the source of the sacred Godavari River. As the tenth Jyotirlinga, it is highly unique because the Linga has three small faces representing the trinity of Hindu gods: Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh (Shiva). The temple is constructed of black basalt stone and is renowned for special Vedic rituals like Kaal Sarp Dosh Puja.

Historical & Mythological Significance

According to legends, Rishi Gautama lived here and was freed from the sin of cow-killing by bringing the Ganges down as Godavari river (Gautami). At his request, Lord Shiva agreed to reside here along with Brahma and Vishnu. The modern temple was commissioned by Peshwa Balaji Baji Rao in the mid-18th century, representing the Hemadpanthi style of architecture.
